Your personal lesson plan

At Rijschool Denhaag every lesson trajectory begins with a personal lesson plan. After your trial lesson or first introduction, your instructor draws up a plan tailored precisely to your level, learning style and goals. Are you an absolute beginner who has never sat behind a steering wheel? Then we start with the basics: vehicle controls, pulling away, braking and steering in a quiet environment. Have you had driving lessons before at another school, or do you have experience on a moped or scooter? Then we skip the first steps and pick up right where you left off. The lesson plan is not a static document that gets filed away in a drawer. It is a living overview that we update after every lesson. Your instructor tracks which elements you have mastered, where you are still struggling and which new skills are next. That way you always know exactly where you stand and how far you still have to go. That transparency matters to us. We do not want you to feel in the dark after twenty lessons. Your lesson plan typically follows a phased structure. The first phase focuses on vehicle control: clutch, gear changes, braking and steering. The second phase is about traffic awareness: right of way, roundabouts, intersections and merging. In the third phase you combine everything in complex traffic situations, such as busy streets in central Den Haag, the ring road and motorways towards Delft and Zoetermeer. The final phase is exam preparation, during which we practise the CBR routes from Rijswijk. The number of lessons varies per student, but on average you need between thirty and forty lessons. With a clear lesson plan and a dedicated instructor you get the most out of every driving lesson.

Driving in the city and on the motorway
— 02

Driving in the city and on the motorway

A large part of your lesson trajectory takes place in the real traffic of Den Haag and the surrounding area. That is deliberate, because the CBR exam takes place in the traffic around Rijswijk and you need to be prepared for everything you encounter there. We start in quiet residential neighbourhoods, but quite soon you will be driving in busier traffic. Think of the Laan van Meerdervoort, the Nehru-laan and the Hubertusviaduct. You learn to deal with tram tracks, cyclists, pedestrians and unpredictable situations that are typical of a large city. The difference with driving in a quiet village is enormous, and that is precisely why it is important to gain plenty of experience there. In addition to city traffic we also practise extensively on the motorway. The A12 towards Zoetermeer, the A4 towards Delft and the A13 towards Rotterdam are routes we drive regularly. On the motorway you learn to merge, exit, overtake and handle high-speed traffic. Many students find this nerve-wracking at first, but with the right guidance you get used to it quickly. Your instructor sits beside you with dual controls and intervenes if necessary, so you can practise safely. We also drive through surrounding municipalities such as Rijswijk, Voorburg, Leidschendam and Pijnacker-Nootdorp. That variety is important because every environment brings different traffic situations. In Rijswijk you encounter the exam routes you will be driving at the CBR. In Delft you learn to navigate narrow inner-city lanes. And in Zoetermeer you practise on clear roads with plenty of roundabouts. That broad experience makes you a confident driver who is not startled by unfamiliar situations. That is exactly what the CBR expects from you on exam day.

Experienced guidance at every lesson

Experienced guidance at every lesson

The quality of your instructor makes or breaks your lesson trajectory. At Rijschool Denhaag you are guided by instructors with years of experience teaching in Den Haag and the wider area. That means they not only know how to drive, but also how to teach you to drive. There is a big difference between a good driver and a good driving instructor. Our instructors master both. They explain clearly, give feedback at the right moment and know when to let you try things out without immediately intervening. That balance between guiding and letting go is essential for your learning process. You do not receive feedback only at the end of the lesson, but directly after every action. Did you take a bend just a little too wide? You hear about it straight away so you can correct it on the next bend. That direct link between action and feedback ensures you learn faster and bad habits do not become ingrained. Our instructors know the traffic in Den Haag like the back of their hand. They know which intersections are tricky for beginners, where to watch out for tram tracks and at which spots cyclists often appear unexpectedly. That local knowledge is a huge advantage because they can prepare you specifically for situations you will encounter on the CBR exam. Furthermore, at Rijschool Denhaag you always have the same instructor. That is a deliberate choice. A dedicated instructor knows your strong points and areas for improvement, understands how you react under pressure and can fine-tune the lesson trajectory precisely to your development. You do not have to explain where you stand at the start of every lesson. That continuity saves lessons and gives you more confidence behind the wheel.

Your dedicated lesson car and instructor

Your dedicated lesson car and instructor

At Rijschool Denhaag you always drive in the same lesson car and with the same instructor. That may sound like a detail, but it makes a world of difference to your learning process. Every car feels different. The clutch has a different bite point, the steering responds differently, the mirrors sit in a different position. If you step into a different car each lesson, you spend the first few minutes getting used to the vehicle instead of practising new skills. Because you always have the same car with us, you eventually know the controls inside out. You know exactly when the clutch engages, how the brakes respond and how far you need to turn the wheel for a right-angle turn. That familiarity gives you calm and confidence, and that translates directly into better performance in traffic. Our lesson car is modern, comfortable and equipped with all the safety features you need. The dual controls ensure your instructor can intervene at any moment. The car is compact enough for the narrow streets in central Den Haag yet stable enough for the motorway towards Zoetermeer or Delft. The same applies to your dedicated instructor. Someone you know and trust makes it easier to make mistakes and learn from them. You do not have to adjust to a new personality, a different way of explaining or different expectations every lesson. Your instructor knows you, knows what you find difficult and where you excel. That personal bond makes the lessons more effective and more enjoyable. It is one of the reasons why students at Rijschool Denhaag are often ready for the exam sooner than at large driving school chains where you are assigned a different instructor each time. Consistency in car and instructor is one of our core values.
